ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On April 8 around 10:00 a.m., Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a home on W. Dick Hayes Road in Westlake in reference to a burglary in progress.

Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the victim who advised when returning home he discovered a man, later identified as Joshua R. Bryant, 20, 1801 Augusta Street, Westlake, driving away from his home at a high rate of speed. The victim was able to get a detailed description, including the license plate number, of the SUV in which Bryant fled.

During further investigation, the victim discovered the rear door of his home had been shattered and several items were stolen from his home including eight firearms, an X-Box gaming system, several pieces of jewelry, electronics and a checkbook.

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On November 28, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office received a complaint from the Department of Child and Family Services regarding Michael J. Sonnier, II, 31, 2500 Davis Road, Westlake, having inappropriate sexual contact with a 5 year old female family member on numerous occasions in 2012.

After further investigation, Sonnier was arrested on December 12 and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with 2 counts of aggravated incest.

Judge David Ritchie set his bond at $250,000.

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On December 6, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives were dispatched to a home in Lake Charles regarding a report of a theft. When detectives spoke with the victim, she advised two rings, valued at over $4,000, were missing from her home. The victim told detectives that Keena S. Cooper, 49, 2517 Anderson Street, Westlake, was recently hired to clean her home.

When questioned by detectives, Cooper confirmed she stole the jewelry while cleaning the victim’s home and then sold them to a local pawn shop for cash.

Cooper was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with theft over $1,500.

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On November 16, at approximately 12:30 a.m., detectives with the Combined Anti-Drug Task Force (C.A.T. Team) were dispatched to 816 Bee Tree Street in Westlake in regard to a house fire that had possibly been caused by individuals manufacturing methamphetamine.

Upon arrival, C.A.T. detectives learned Westlake Fire Department had extinguished the fire prior to the entire house being destroyed by the fire. Detectives were unable to make contact with the homeowner or any other occupants, therefore a search warrant was obtained. During a search of the home, detectives located several items inside the home that were consistent with creation or operation of a clandestine lab.

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — In July, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Vice Division began an investigation of possible child pornography being downloaded by Michael J. Sonnier, II, 31, 2500 Davis Road, Westlake.

During the early morning hours of October 16, CPSO Vice detectives, along with the assistance from Louisiana State Police, arrested Sonnier after a search of his residence revealed a home computer that contained approximately 40 child pornography images and videos.

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On September 29, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office received a complaint regarding Philo G. Morvant, 35, 620 Neil Road, Westlake, having inappropriate sexual contact with a 5 year old juvenile.  Morvant was an acquaintance of the victim’s family.

When questioned by detectives, Morvant confirmed the allegations.  He was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with 1 count of indecent behavior with a juvenile.

Judge Kent Savoie set his bond at $50,000.

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On Friday, June 15, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Westlake Police Department conducted a combination DWI checkpoint and a seatbelt checkpoint at the 1600 block of Sampson Street in Westlake to target individuals driving under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics, as well as those not wearing their seatbelt.
