The Stone Temple Pilots have fired singer Scott Weiland (WY’-land).
In a one-sentence news release Wednesday, publicist Kymm Britton said: “Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland.” No other information was provided.
The Associated Press was attempting to reach Weiland for comment.

Usher debuted new songs in an unconventional way Friday night: The singer danced to his new music as part of the off-Broadway play “Fuerza Bruta: Look Up.”
“Fuerza Bruta” is the fast-paced and acrobatic play in which the audience stands as performers dance and jump around on the walls, onstage and on the floor with the crowd.
Usher worked as its lead “Running Man,” beginning the show on a treadmill, bursting though paper-made walls as his No. 1 R&B tune “Climax” blasted in the background.

The Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana Convention and Visitor’s Bureau hosted a news conference today to reveal the rebranding and schedule of events including Josh Turner performing for the 2012 Contraband Days.

The number of US pedestrians who have been killed or badly injured while wearing headphones has tripled in six years, according to a study published Tuesday.
The annual tally rose from 16 in 2004 to 47 in 2011, bringing the total of cases to 116 over this period, say the authors.
