ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On Saturday, March 9, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office conducted a DWI checkpoint at 2901 Westwood Road in Westlake to target individuals driving under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics.

Five-hundred and sixty (560) vehicles were checked; sixteen (16) field sobriety tests were administered; five (5) citations were issued; and the following six (6) people were arrested for DWI:

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — In a continuing effort to keep the citizens of Calcasieu Parish safe, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a DWI checkpoint at an undisclosed location in the parish on Saturday, March 9.

This checkpoint will target individuals driving under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics. They have proven to be very effective in discouraging citizens from driving while impaired and people are more likely to designate a driver when they know sobriety checkpoints are being conducted.

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On March 2, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a single vehicle accident at the intersection of Belfield Drive and Waynewood Drive in Moss Bluff.

Upon arrival, the deputy discovered the truck appeared to have run off the road and into a ditch. When the deputy approached the truck and spoke with the driver, Adam C. Buller, 28, 577 Kenneth Cole Road, Moss Bluff, he detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his breath, along with slurred speech.

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On February 28, at approximately around 2:30 a.m., Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a convenience store on N. Cities Service Highway in Sulphur regarding a report of a vehicle driving off after stealing gas.

Deputies observed a vehicle matching the description driving westbound on I-10 near mile marker 21 and conducted a traffic stop. When deputies approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver, Roger D. Thomas, Jr., 34, 2112 Ellis Drive, Westlake, they detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his breath, as well as very slurred speech.

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On January 26 at approximately 5:30 p.m., Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a store parking lot on Highway 14 in reference to a complainant who had followed a possible drunk driver who was swerving all over the road.

When the deputy approached the car and spoke with the driver, Mark A. Bearby, 28, 1463 Tan Tara Circle, Moss Bluff, he discovered Bearby, who was found to be going in and out of consciousness, had his foot on the brake pedal with the car was still in gear. Bearby advised the deputy that he had consumed prescription pills earlier in the day, for which he had no prescription.

After performing poorly on the standard field sobriety test, Bearby, who has had 3 DWI arrests since 2005, was arrested and booked into Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged DWI 4th.

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On January 19, at approximately around 8:30 p.m., a Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy was patrolling the area of N. Shattuck Street and Opelousas Street in Lake Charles and conducted a stop on a car driven by George Joseph, 61, 2001 6th Street, Lake Charles for a traffic violation.

When the deputy approached the car and spoke with Joseph, he detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his breath, as well as very slurred speech, and he appeared very unsteady on his feet. Joseph advised the deputy that he had been drinking prior to driving.
