McNeese State’s women’s basketball team (9-4) will conclude non-conference play and will look to snap a two game losing streak, its longest of the season hereTuesday night when the Cowgirls host Wiley College (7-2). Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be carried live on Cajunradio (KJEF 1290 or 1470 AM). The game has been designated as Youth Basketball Night. McNeese State’s women’s basketball team improved to 7-1 and extended their winning streak to seven games here Saturday with a 78-23 victory over Southern-New Orleans. The win also extended McNeese’s home winning streak to 17 games, dating back to last season. The 23 points by SUNO is a school record for fewest points yielded by a McNeese team. McNeese State’s women’s basketball team won their fifth straight game with a 72-59 win over Houston here Saturday to improve to 5-1 on the year. The 5-1 start is the best start under head Coach Brooks Williams and is the second best start since the 1996-97 team started 6-0.
“Anytime we can win in a tournament environment, it is very helpful for the end of the season. I’m really proud of the girls for getting prepared and ready to play. Playing back-to-back tournament’ is a great learning lesson,” said head coach Brooks Donald Williams. View full article »
McNeese State’s women’s basketball team returns to action Monday night to host interstate rival UL-Lafayette in a 7 p.m. contest at Burton Coliseum. The game can be heard live on Cajun Radio (1290 AM or 1470 AM) with Brian Benoit and Tyler Williams calling all the action.
McNeese (2-1) is coming off two victories in the WNIT Consolation bracket over the weekend at Burton Coliseum. The Cowgirls defeated Manhattan 69-52 in the first round and picked up a 61-56 overtime win over UAB in the second round. View full article »
McNeese State and UTSA have been selected as the preseason favorites to win the Southland Conference East and West Divisions, respectively, by a vote of the league’s coaches and sports information directors, the conference office announced Wednesday.
McNeese State, the defending regular-season and conference tournament champion, received nine first-place votes and 64 points in both the coaches’ poll and SID poll, ranking the Cowgirls first in the East Division in both polls. UTSA was picked first in the West Division in both polls. The Roadrunners received six first-place votes in the coaches’ poll with 60 points and five first-place votes in the SID poll for 57 points. McNeese State’s women’s basketball team will host New Orleans in a 7 p.m. exhibition game Wednesday night at Burton Coliseum. Admission is free to the public.
