A Houston-area community college went into lockdown Tuesday afternoon amid reports of a shooter on campus.

A shooting on a Texas community college campus wounded at least two people Tuesday and sent students fleeing for safety as officials placed the campus on lockdown, officials said. Authorities had at least one person in custody and wounded, according to a law enforcement official in Washington who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the ongoing case. The official said local authorities also thought there could be a second shooter.

Jerry Sandusky, maintaining his innocence, was sentenced Tuesday to at least 30 years in prison – effectively a life sentence – in the child sexual abuse scandal that brought shame to Penn State and led to coach Joe Paterno’s downfall.

A defiant Sandusky gave a rambling statement in which he denied the allegations and talked about his life in prison and the pain of being away from his family.

“I’ve forgiven, I’ve been forgiven. I’ve comforted others, I’ve been comforted. I’ve been kissed by dogs, I’ve been bit by dogs,” he said. “I’ve conformed, I’ve also been different. I’ve been me. I’ve been loved, I’ve been hated.”

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAFAYETTE, LA. — A registered sex offender has been booked on a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the disappearance last May of a Louisiana college student, authorities said.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said Thursday night that 33-year-old Brandon Scott Lavergne, of the same parish, was booked on first-degree murder and aggravated kidnapping charges by police in Lafayette, where University of Louisiana student Mickey Shunick went missing May 19.

Students at a public Pennsylvania university can buy the “morning after” pill from a campus vending machine, though the school’s minister is working to get the dispenser off of school grounds.

The vending machine at Shippensburg University’s Etter Health Center that provides Plan B emergency contraceptive pills for $25 was installed after a survey found that 85 percent of student respondents supported it, according to Peter Gigliotti, the university’s executive director for communications and marketing. Police are investigating after several homemade acid bombs were planted on the Valencia College campus in Orlando, Fla., cfnews13.com reports.

A total of seven bottles were found in parking lots along walkways near buildings, the station reports. Two of the bottles exploded Friday night, about 100 yards apart. View full article »
