A hot air balloon carrying tourists over Egypt’s ancient city of Luxor caught fire Tuesday, and some passengers trying to escape the flames leaped to their deaths before the craft crashed in a sugar cane field. At least 19 tourists were killed in one of the world’s deadliest ballooning accidents.
The accident was a new blow to Egypt’s tourism industry, which has been gutted by the country’s turmoil the past two years. The southern city of Luxor, site of some of the most dramatic pharaonic temples, has been particularly hard hit, with empty hotels worsening the area’s poverty.

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA — On April 2, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a home on N. Lake Court Drive in Lake Charles regarding a vehicle burglary where the victim reported two firearms stolen out of his unlocked vehicle.
Detectives with the CPSO Vehicle Crimes Unit conducted an investigation and linked Julian Mendoza, 17, 815 Magazine Street, Lake Charles, to the vehicle burglary. Mendoza, who was already incarcerated at the Calcasieu Correctional Center following a March 28 arrest by LCPD in connection with a residential burglary, was charged with simple burglary of a vehicle; and 2 counts of theft of firearms.

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA — On January 27, at around 3:00 p.m., Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies conducted a traffic stop on a car at East Broad Street and I-210 overpass in Lake Charles for a traffic violation.
Deputies spoke with the passenger, registered sex offender John B. Baham, 19, Tom Hebert Road, Lake Charles, and upon checking his Louisiana driver’s license it was discovered the address listed was outdated. View full article »
ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA — On January 10, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Kayla M. Hooper, 19, Moss Bluff, after receiving two separate reports of Hooper engaging in inappropriate sexual contact with a 16 year old girl and a 15 year old girl, both acquaintances of Hooper.
The investigation revealed Hooper engaged in inappropriate sexual activity with the 16 year old victim and had been doing so on numerous occasions for the past 2 months. View full article »
ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA — On October 25, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a home on Mark LeBleu Road regarding a report of theft and criminal damage to property.
When deputies arrived, they spoke with the victim who advised while checking on his property, he noticed a piece of equipment in his field had been dismantled, and parts, valued at over $1,000, were stolen from it. View full article »

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA — On September 14, shortly before noon, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Prison correctional officers discovered an inmate who was unconscious and appeared to be severely beaten. Medical personnel responded and transported him to a local hospital for treatment. The victim was subsequently transferred to a Lafayette hospital for treatment of neurological injuries, including head trauma, facial fractures, and contusions, and is currently in critical condition.
