In a joint investigation that has spanned almost a year, Sheriff Tony Mancuso and District Attorney John DeRosier announced the arrest of William Felix Vail, 73, for the murder of his wife, Mary Horton Vail, in October 1962. Vail was arrested at his home located in Canyon Lake, Texas which is between San Antonio and Austin. Both DeRosier and Mancuso said this is undoubtedly the coldest case that either of their offices has investigated.

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On May 12, 2013 at approximately 8:30 p.m., Corporal S. Brister and Officer S. Sizemore with the Lake Charles Police Department were dispatched to 400 N Lakeshore Drive (Veterans Memorial Park) in reference to a robbery.

Upon their arrival, officers learned from the victim that an argument ensued with the suspect, later identified as Lawrence Brown Sr. During the argument, Brown took the victim’s cell phone, car keys, and then committed battery upon her.  Brown took $600 from the victim’s purse then threw the victim’s cell phone and car keys into the lake. Brown fled on foot but was apprehended shortly thereafter by police and arrested for Simple Robbery.

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On May 6, 2013 at 9:05 p.m., Corporal J. Hurd and Officer D. Wagoner were dispatched to 947 3rd Avenue (Family Dollar) in reference to a robbery. Upon arrival, Officers made contact with employees who advised that they were locking the front door of the store when a black male rapidly approached them from the northeast side of the building. The employee entered the store and closed the door at which time the black male brandished a black handgun in his right hand. The suspect was wearing an orange jumpsuit with a black ski mask and black gloves. The suspect was unable to enter the store due to the door being locked. The employee observed two more black male suspects traveling toward the front door of the store from the northeast corner of the building. The second suspect, carrying an unknown black handgun, was wearing a white long sleeve t-shirt with black stripes, camouflage shorts and a red bandana over his face and head. The third suspect was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and black shoes. All three suspects fled west across the parking lot on foot.

Detectives H. Sanders and K. Farquhar were called to the scene to handle the follow-up investigation.

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On May 4, 2013 at approximately 1:50 AM L.C.P.D. Corporal S. Touchet & Officer S. Tatum investigated a stolen vehicle complaint which occurred at 1301 Ryan Street OB’s parking lot. As Officers were investigating this complaint they put a bolo out for the stolen vehicle. Shortly thereafter officer observed the stolen vehicle pull up at a stop sign eastbound on 2nd Street. When L.C.P.D. Officers tried to stop the stolen vehicle, the driver refused & a vehicle pursuit ensued. The suspect driving the vehicle crashed into a fence at 1708 21st Street then fled on foot. Cpl. Fontenot and his K-9 were deployed and K-9 tracked from vehicle to 1608 21st Street. Officers made contact with Michael DeVille at the residence read him his rights then questioned him and he admitted to stealing vehicle.

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On May 4, 2013 approximately 23:40 hours Lake Charles Police Officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of Moeling Street in regards to a shooting. Upon arrival at a residence in the 2100 block of Moeling officers found two victims shot.

According to victims, there was a gathering at this residence when they heard a knock on the door. Upon opening the door two unknown suspects dressed all in black with hoodies over their heads and red bandannas covering their faces entered armed with a weapon and demanded money from all parties.

ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On April 30, 2013 at approximately 6:48 a.m., Lake Charles Police Officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of North Lyons Street in reference to a disturbance. Corporal Romero met with the victim near the intersection of Opelousas and North Shattuck Street after the incident occurred. Corporal Romero was advised by the victim that her ex-boyfriend, David White, broke into her residence on North Lyons Street and held her at gun point. She stated that the suspect was still in the residence. Corporal Loftin, Corporal Petroski, and Officer Young traveled to the residence and located David White lying on a bed in the victim’s bedroom.
