Power of Moore Tornado Dwarfs Hiroshima Bomb
May 21st, 2013Wind, humidity and rainfall combined precisely to create the massive killer tornado in Moore, Okla. And when they did, the awesome amount of energy released over that city dwarfed the power of the atomic bomb that leveled Hiroshima.
Meteorologists contacted by The Associated Press used real time measurements to calculate the energy released during the storm’s life span of almost an hour. Their estimates ranged from 8 times to more than 600 times the power of the Hiroshima bomb.

Feds in NYC: Hackers stole $45M in ATM Card Breach
May 9th, 2013A worldwide gang of criminals stole a total of $45 million in a matter of hours by hacking their way into a database of prepaid debit cards and then draining cash machines around the globe, federal prosecutors said Thursday – and outmoded U.S. card technology may be partly to blame.
Seven people are under arrest in the U.S. in connection with the case, which prosecutors said involved thousands of thefts from ATMs using bogus magnetic swipe cards carrying information from Middle Eastern banks. The fraudsters moved with astounding speed to loot financial institutions around the world, working in cells including one in New York, Brooklyn U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch said.
She called it “a massive 21st-century bank heist” carried out by brazen thieves.

Bride, 4 others Die in Limo Fire on Calif. Bridge
May 6th, 2013Investigators are trying to determine why the back of a stretch limousine burst into flames on a San Francisco Bay bridge, trapping and killing five of the nine women inside on a girls’ night out, including a newlywed bride.
It happened late Saturday night as the Lincoln Town Car crossed the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge on the south end of the bay.
The driver, Orville Brown, said at first he misunderstood what one of the passengers in the back was saying when she knocked on the partition between the passenger area and the driver compartment and complained about smelling smoke.

CPSO arrests woman for Cruerlty to a Juvenile
April 15th, 2013ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On April 3, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office receiving a complaint regarding Kandyse R. Sensat, 31, 4017 Wildflower Drive, Sulphur, physically abusing an 11 year old family member.
Detectives were advised following a recent argument with her live-in boyfriend, Sensat placed a blanket over the victim’s nose and mouth. Detectives also discovered on a previous occasion, Sensat struck the victim multiple times on her arm and leg and had slammed the victim’s head into a wall.

CPSO arrests man for Burglary & Theft in Progress
April 14th, 2013ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On April 11, at approximately 10:00 a.m., Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched in reference to a burglary in progress at a home on S. Perkins Ferry Road in Moss Bluff.
The caller advised there was a man, later identified as Terry J. Young, 54, 1008 Sistrunk Street, Moss Bluff, stealing several items from her garage and placing them in his truck.

Man Gets 7 Years for Stealing Obama’s Teleprompter
April 12th, 2013A career criminal who stole a truck containing President Obama’s audio equipment was sentenced Thursday to seven years in federal prison.
Sentencing guidelines called for a term of about three years, but Eric Brown of Richmond, Va., agreed to the longer sentence to avoid prosecution for 14 similar truck thefts in three localities. However, he could still face charges in Stafford County, which did not join Chesterfield, Hanover and Henrico counties in the agreement.

CPSO arrests 2nd person for Damage to Vehicles on I-10
April 10th, 2013ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives have arrested a second person, Andrew C. Gobert, 19, 2705 Linkswiller Road, Lake Charles, for throwing large pieces of broken concrete and wood debris off of Fabacher Overpass on I-10 near Vinton. The debris hit vehicles traveling on I-10, resulting in several injuries and over $10,000 in damages to thirteen vehicles during the early morning hours between February 12-14.
CPSO detectives previously arrested Dalton J. Jaquillard on February 18, who was with Gobert, for the same offense. He was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with 7 counts of aggravated assault and 8 counts of aggravated criminal damage to property. Judge Robert Wyatt set his bond at $60,000.
