Yahoo buys Tumblr mostly in Cash
May 20th, 2013Yahoo is buying online blogging forum Tumblr for $1.1 billion as CEO Marissa Mayer tries to rejuvenate an Internet pioneer that had fallen behind the times.
The deal announced Monday is Mayer’s boldest move since she left Google 10 months ago to lead Yahoo’s latest comeback attempt. It marks Yahoo’s most expensive acquisition since the Sunnyvale, Calif., company bought online search engine Overture a decade ago for $1.3 billion in cash and stock.

William Felix Vail arrested for 1962 Calcasieu Parish Murder
May 18th, 2013In a joint investigation that has spanned almost a year, Sheriff Tony Mancuso and District Attorney John DeRosier announced the arrest of William Felix Vail, 73, for the murder of his wife, Mary Horton Vail, in October 1962. Vail was arrested at his home located in Canyon Lake, Texas which is between San Antonio and Austin. Both DeRosier and Mancuso said this is undoubtedly the coldest case that either of their offices has investigated.

Holder defends Subpoenas for AP Telephone Records
May 15th, 2013Attorney General Eric Holder told Congress Wednesday that a serious national security leak required the secret gathering of telephone records at The Associated Press as he stood by an investigation in which he insisted he had no involvement.
Pestered by Republicans and some Democrats, Holder testified that he has faith in the individuals conducting the broad investigation, driven in large part by GOP outrage last year over the possibility that administration officials leaked information to enhance President Barack Obama’s national security reputation in an election year.

IG says Lax Management allowed Tea Party Targeting
May 14th, 2013Ineffective management at the Internal Revenue Service allowed agents to improperly target tea party groups for extra scrutiny when they applied for tax exempt status, an internal Treasury Department report said Tuesday.
Lax managers allowed the practice to go on for more than 18 months, said the report from the Treasury inspector general for tax administration.

Obama tries to swat down 2 Swirling Controversies

LCPD: Robbery on N. Lakeshore Drive (Veterans Memorial Park)
May 13th, 2013ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — On May 12, 2013 at approximately 8:30 p.m., Corporal S. Brister and Officer S. Sizemore with the Lake Charles Police Department were dispatched to 400 N Lakeshore Drive (Veterans Memorial Park) in reference to a robbery.
Upon their arrival, officers learned from the victim that an argument ensued with the suspect, later identified as Lawrence Brown Sr. During the argument, Brown took the victim’s cell phone, car keys, and then committed battery upon her. Brown took $600 from the victim’s purse then threw the victim’s cell phone and car keys into the lake. Brown fled on foot but was apprehended shortly thereafter by police and arrested for Simple Robbery.
Detective D. Gaudet is the follow-up investigator on this case.
