ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA. — Saturday morning at approximately 5:05, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office investigated a truck-bicycle accident in the 7800 block of Nelson Road in Lake Charles. The investigation revealed the bicyclist, Mario Beltran, 52, Baton Rouge, was struck from behind by a pick up truck driven by Casey Richter, 25, Prairieville, LA.
Both were traveling southbound on Nelson Rd. Beltran was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office. Both Beltran and Richter were living in Lake Charles at the time of the accident.
Richter was given a standardized field sobriety test, interviewed by investigators and later released. Charges are pending the completion of the investigation. As state law mandates, a standard toxicololgy report was performed on Richter but at the point in the investigation, driver impairment does not appear to be a factor in the accident.
