The Louisiana Swashbucklers will take on the Albany Panthers on Saturday, March 24th in the Smuggler’s Den at the Lake Charles Civic Center. The Bucs and Panthers are both 1-0 on the regular season. Louisiana survived a late game resurgence by the Alabama Hammers and won 56-49. Albany defeated the Richmond Raiders 40-28.
This is the first meeting between the two teams since July 2nd of last year, when Albany won the league championship 69-48.
Last Saturday, the Swashbucklers averaged 42 yards on the ground and 186 yards in the air. The team had 228 yards of total offense as compared to 200 yards for the Hammers. Louisiana was flagged six times for 29 yards and 5/7 in third down conversions.
Expected to be under center for the Bucs is Alvin Bartie with Kendrick Perry in the backfield along with receivers Sammy Knight and Jordan Rideaux in the wideout positions.
The Panthers had 20 yards on the ground against Richmond and 106 yards passing. Albany had 126 total yards offense with four penalties for 49 yards. They were 3/8 in third down conversions. Expected to start for the Panthers is quarterback Cecil Lester with Derrick Wimbush handling the ground game while Antwone Savage, Antwontis Cutts and John Harris is scheduled will handle the receiving duties for Albany.
The two teams also played last year in the season opener for both upon which Albany narrowly squeezed by 30-27.
Louisiana will play the Panthers back-to-back on March 24th and in Albany on March 31st. A third meeting in the 2012 season is scheduled for May 12th which is also in Albany.
