ERIC SCOTT RADIO | LAKE CHARLES, LA — In October 2011, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives received a call from the owner of a local business regarding an employee stealing from the company.
The owner advised, after researching discrepancies in the company’s bank account, it was discovered Vicki L. Jeanis, 41 Lake Charles, who worked as a bookkeeper for the company, wrote herself over $67,000 worth of company checks to cash and would post the amounts under different vendors or subcontractor’s names.
When questioned by detectives, Jeanis confirmed she forged the owner’s signature on the checks and had been doing so since August 2010.
On January 24, Jeanis was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with 48 counts of forgery; 45 counts of theft over $1,500; and 3 counts of theft $500–$1,500.
Judge Ron Ware has set her bond at $75,000.
